Eye Disease Management
in Picayune & Pearl River
Many of the most serious eye diseases develop gradually and silently without pain or obvious warning signs. By the time symptoms become noticeable, permanent vision loss may have already occurred. It’s why we recommend scheduling regular comprehensive eye exams because they help us stay ahead of changes and support healthy vision long-term.
At Advanced Eyecare, we provide advanced eye disease management in Picayune and Pearl River. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic technology to detect signs of disease early, often before you notice any changes.
Whether you’ve been referred for a specific concern or are trying to stay proactive about your eye health, our eye doctors provide a thorough, personalized approach to monitoring and managing conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Glaucoma treatment
Glaucoma is often called the silent thief of sight because it typically develops without pain or noticeable vision changes in the early stages. However, even without symptoms, it can cause progressive damage to the optic nerve that cannot be reversed.
Early detection and consistent management protect vision over the long term. At Advanced Eyecare, we use advanced imaging technology to monitor optic nerve health and detect pressure-related damage before it progresses. Treatment options depend on the type and severity of glaucoma, and may include:
- Prescription eye drops to lower intraocular pressure and slow optic nerve damage
- Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT): an in-office laser procedure that we offer to improve fluid drainage from the eye, reducing pressure with minimal recovery time and no incisions
- A referral for surgical intervention when more advanced treatment is needed

Cataract treatment
Cataracts develop when the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy, gradually dimming and distorting vision. Most people notice symptoms such as:
- Blurry or cloudy vision
- Increased glare, especially at night
- Halos around lights
- Difficulty reading in low light or seeing fine details
Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, responsible for about 50% of cases globally.¹
Not every cataract requires immediate surgery. In earlier stages, an updated glasses or contact lens prescription can often help compensate for vision changes. When cataracts progress to the point where they begin to interfere significantly with daily life, surgery becomes the most effective option.
When surgery is recommended, our eye doctors provide thorough pre-operative evaluation and post-operative care to support a smooth recovery. We also offer YAG laser treatment for posterior capsule opacification. This is a common occurrence after cataract surgery that is sometimes referred to as a “secondary cataract,” which can cause vision to become cloudy again. YAG laser treatment is a quick, painless, in-office procedure that restores clarity without the need for additional surgery.
Macular degeneration treatment
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the macula, which is the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. It's the most common cause of severe vision loss among people age 50 and older,² and it can make everyday tasks like reading, driving, and recognizing faces increasingly difficult as it progresses.
While there is currently no cure for AMD, early detection and proactive management can significantly slow its progression and help preserve functional vision for as long as possible. Our eye doctors in Picayune and Pearl River monitor AMD carefully over time and work with each patient to develop a management strategy suited to their stage of the condition and daily needs.
Warning signs of eye diseases
Because many serious eye conditions develop with few or no early symptoms, routine exams are the most reliable way to catch problems before they progress. That said, certain changes in your vision should prompt a visit sooner rather than later:
- Blurry, hazy, or distorted vision
- Halos or glare around lights, especially at night
- Gradual loss of central or peripheral vision
- Difficulty with night vision
- Eye pain, pressure, or persistent redness
- Frequent changes in your glasses or contact lens prescription
- Sudden changes in vision of any kind
